some people have children and love lifes… i have this. tons and tons of fabric and ribbon and sewing projects. i can’t even begin to say what everything is and where it all is but it feels great to have it all finally sorted out. also as always amigurumi charlie kelly and my zombie cupcake pin cushion are hanging out.
re: my last post
….. yeah this is almost embarrassing. there’s still another bag of scraps i haven’t gone through and cut down/organized/ironed… so there might be a giveaway in the future
i also just realized, i really need to take a picture of my new sewing area/room! i’ll clean everything up and do it this weekend because it is pretty awesome
my latest project in prep for this craft show has finally been going through my shamefully huge container of scraps that i will ‘SOME DAY USE!!!’ and seeing how much i have is just insane. when it’s all done i’m going to take a picture and then decide what to do with all of it. considering the size of most of these, i’ve been considering doing a give away for a quilter. would that even be something someone wants?
i feel like i’ve been sewing for days and it’s only been four hours… but the aprons are almost done for this custom order! plus i’ve had about a million additional ideas for camp nanowrimo in june. maybe that’s what’s taking so long?
I’m really starting to believe I need to do some inventory. Maybe keep track of everything and say I have .5, 1, 1.5, etc yards of untouched fabric of each kind because I have been buying things I don’t need to buy. And I would know I didn’t need to buy them if I didn’t have to dig to discover I have that tiny bit of fabric available for a waistband, etc. Would I seem absolutely insane if I did this?
As I was sewing, my machine was slowing down. I had this great moment of panic where I thought IS THIS THE END!? I was convinced my motor was dying, with two orders left to sew. However I opened up the bobbin housing and realized it was this damn pre-filled bobbin I was using.
I HATE PRE-FILLED BOBBINS. Can I get a hallelu?
So after I literally ripped all of this thread from the bobbin with my seam ripper, I filled the bobbin (oh hey, my motor was running just fine, thanks!) and then put it back in the shuttle and went back to put it in the housing.
It was only in this moment that I actually realized what’s been making all of this noise. One of the plastic pieces that hold the housing in, I THINK, is broken or cracked or weak. It slipped right off and the housing basically fell into my hands. So I had another panic moment, going at shit with my screwdriver. I blasted a simultaneously embarrassing, disturbing and epic amount of fabric dust from that area.
So I put it all back together, but I’m feeling nervous. I know I’ll be able to finish these aprons and probably a couple more. There are plans to buy a new machine once I reach 100 sales on etsy which couldn’t be coming at a better time. I’ve been using the same used/hand-me-down for the past million years. I learned to sew on this thing back when I was a Girl Scout. And now I believe I’ve sewn an estimated 150 aprons (probably more), and who knows how much else of other stuff, so it’s time for a new one.
I feel like I’m just waiting for an epic disaster to go on with my bobbin housing at any time. But at least I’m not using a too tight, pre-filled, POS anymore!
Oh yeah, I’m currently deciding between this and this machine. Anyone have these? What do you think of them?
okay someone help me decide on this apron. it’s like simultaneously modern belle from beauty and the beast, and also yanking the curtains down and sewing something fierce ala scarlett o’hara. i did the bodice differently and put some interfacing in there to make it keep shape. but the only interfacing i had is pretty stuff so it’s never going to not be like that lol. i wonder if it would keep its shape just from my top stitching, though. i don’t know, just a step further away from the patterns i started using when i first started sewing. do you love it?
